The Gel Chooser

At the top of the this list you find the [default parameters for these gels] button. This will bring up the defaults window, which allows you to set some default parameters, which are applied to each new gel arriving in this directory.

Below there is a list of all gels for the current project that haven't been transferred to the database yet. Each gel is listed by its name and some information about how much of the analysis is completed.

These are the columns at the right hand side of the gels list :

  1. i - gel info; if ticked, the gel parameters have been entered.
  2. l - lane tracking; if ticked, the lanes have been calculated
  3. b - band calling; if ticked, band data is available
  4. s - standard matching; if ticked, the marker bands have been matched to the standard lane and normalization factors have been calculated.
Note: that a ticked column only means that the data is available, but not necessarily correct.

Double click on a gel name and the is opened and Step 1 comes up.

A gel might be listed in grey, instead of black writing. This means that the gel is locked. A gel is locked when somebody else is editing it at this time. A gel will be unlocked if you quit the program (using the [Quit program] button), or when go back to the main screen from Step 1.

However: a gel might have been left locked by mistake when the program died by other means that the quit button, such as a server shutdown, a program crash or other nasty crash situations.

If you double click on gel which is locked, a dialog box will pop up and tell you who on which machine (in the format username@hostname) locked the gel at what date and time. If you're very sure that this gel was left locked by mistake, click on [Yes] and proceed editing, otherwise click [No] and stay in this window.
